Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for interest in house history and methods of research. However, the development of ideas is limited. The reasons provided—safety concerns and curiosity about previous owners—are relevant but lack depth. The explanation regarding 'harmful cases' and 'robbery' is somewhat repetitive and lacks a clear logical link to why someone would research a house's history. The research methods mentioned (Google and neighbors) are practical, but the explanation of how these tools work is simplistic. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced examples and expand on the 'why' behind these trends, such as the cultural or architectural value of older buildings.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the transition 'One of the reason is' is grammatically incorrect, and the use of 'Therefore' and 'As a result' does not always logically connect the preceding ideas to the conclusion. While there is a clear attempt at paragraphing, the flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed, making the progression of ideas feel a bit forced. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'captivating to find out' instead of 'keen to find out' or 'interested in discovering'. Phrases like 'harmful cases' and 'unusual things' are quite vague. Additionally, there are some collocation errors, such as 'everything may easily find' instead of 'everything can be easily found'. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to the topic of property and historical research.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('One of the reason is'), article usage ('a child may play', 'the history of currently living house'), and tense consistency. The sentence structure is often repetitive, relying on basic patterns. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage would be a beneficial next step.
