If we talk about how residents do research for history of house or building. First thing they do, ask property broker about the property background. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the interest in building history and the methods for researching it. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the reasons provided—legal issues and safety—are relevant but could be expanded with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The conclusion is a bit repetitive, restating points already made without adding synthesis. To improve, ensure that each point is fully explored with supporting details rather than just listed, which would demonstrate a more thorough engagement with the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the reasons, then the research methods, and finally the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'To commence with', 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Another ways'). The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'where they living currently', which lacks a proper relative pronoun. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall flow and coherence of the essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'fascinated' and 'inhabitants', but the range is somewhat limited. There are also instances of awkward collocation and word choice, such as 'settle agreement wisely' instead of 'reach an informed agreement' and 'construction was began' instead of 'construction began'. To achieve a higher band, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and a wider range of academic vocabulary to express ideas with greater nuance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding articles ('the history of residential building'), verb forms ('construction was began'), and subject-verb agreement ('Another ways is'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentence fragments or run-on structures. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy, especially with articles and verb tenses, will be essential for improvement.
