The quest for knowledge is always a part of human history. Nowadays, people are more keen to explore the history of their houses due to a number of reasons. This essay tries to elaborate the underlying causes of this exploration and identify the methods of enquiry.

One of the primary reasons for the attempt to find out the history of the house is the emotional attachment towards the building. People tend to develop a strong connection towards house as it is a premise where they are spending much of their life span. This connection works as a motivating factor to know the past of the concerned building. Another reason would be the thirst for knowledge and find out family genogram, especially if they are living in the same house for generations. It is a modern trend to enquire and document the family tree, exploring the history of the house is a guiding light in this attempt. This enquiry may begin from the year of construction to the present state of building, who started the construction and how many generations lived so far and etc.

The methods of enquiry may vary from people to people. The most prevelent type is the snowball method, in which they asks questions to different people until they identify the full history of the house. Identifying suitable individuals for data collection is significant as there are probabilities of misleading and inaccurate information.

In summary, the interest to find out the history of the house is a spontaneous feeling. The emotional attachment and motivation to acquire knowledge are the primary reasons behind this enquiry. People chose a variety of methods according to their convenience, although snowballing technique is the most prevelent one among them.
