Student answer (Band 5.5)

In many countries people have started to investigate about the people who was resposible in construction of their homes and the reason behind settling in those houses or buildings.

In my perspective the reason behind that investigation is to come across the exact time when those building got residential status and who were those people, to give them their due appreciation. For example in Scotland there are hundreds of years old houses people still don't know about the first residents and when these houses were built in the first place. Some people are even curios about how ancient people were able to build such buildings.

Furthermore to get he right answer they should check the public libraries as there are always material available to link the history of that particular area. Although there will be enough evidence in those libraries, people can also consider different websites carrying more significant information regarding the given matter through reasearhes of people who felt the same way priorer to them. They have already published different articles and reports from their finding years ago. For example there are more than 50 reports in Oxford Library in London about the historical buildings and town of Great British empire.

In conclusion i would say this helps people to get to know about the significance of their in houses in past and the worth in the present. Although it is quite a hectic work, people prefer to spend time and resourses to get to the bottom of that matter as at the end it is worth doing.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the interest and methods for research. However, the development is somewhat limited. The reasons provided—historical curiosity and appreciation—are relevant but could be explored with more depth. The research methods mentioned (libraries and websites) are practical, but the examples provided, such as the 'Oxford Library in London' and the 'Great British empire,' are factually confusing and lack precision. While the position is clear, the ideas are not fully extended, and the response relies on generalizations rather than a robust exploration of the topic. To improve, ensure that examples are accurate and that each point is supported by a clear explanation of 'why' or 'how'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore,' 'Although,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader through the argument. However, the progression of ideas is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and some mechanical use of transitions. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two main requirements of the prompt. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that the relationship between sentences is more sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'residential status,' 'historical buildings,' and 'resources.' However, there are several spelling errors ('resposible,' 'curios,' 'reasearhes,' 'priorer') and some awkward collocations ('investigate about,' 'get the right answer'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the score. To improve, focus on accurate spelling and learning common collocations (e.g., 'conduct research' instead of 'do researches'). Expanding the range of vocabulary to include more precise academic terms would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('people who was resposible') and missing articles ('in houses in past'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with missing commas in complex sentences. Despite these errors, the meaning is generally clear, and the errors do not cause significant difficulty for the reader. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Practicing the construction of complex sentences with accurate punctuation will help elevate the grammatical control.
