Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt—reasons for interest and methods of research—but the development is very limited. The ideas are presented in a fragmented way, and the lack of clear, logical expansion makes it difficult to follow the argument. While the prompt asks for reasons, the explanation provided is repetitive and lacks depth, focusing on vague notions of 'old culture' rather than specific societal or personal motivations. The research methods suggested are also quite basic. Overall, the response lacks the depth and academic tone required for Task 2, resulting in a score that reflects a partial and underdeveloped attempt at the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay lacks a clear structure. There is no introduction or conclusion that effectively frames the topic, and the paragraphing is non-existent or illogical. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'and' to join unrelated clauses. The progression of ideas is disjointed, making it hard for the reader to follow the writer's train of thought. Referencing is often unclear, and the transition between the reasons for interest and the research methods is abrupt. The overall organization is insufficient to support a coherent argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive, relying on basic words like 'things', 'history', and 'people'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'very seen about history' and 'conform about your home'. The student struggles to express more complex ideas due to a lack of range in vocabulary. Spelling errors are also frequent, such as 'intrested', 'ralitives', and 'recommand'. The lexical range is insufficient to convey precise meaning, and the errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the intended message.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response consists primarily of simple sentences with frequent grammatical errors. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, and sentence structure. For example, 'my friend house are very old' and 'he was find about things' demonstrate a lack of control over basic English grammar. Complex structures are attempted but are almost always faulty, leading to confusion. Punctuation is also problematic, with run-on sentences and a lack of proper capitalization. The high frequency of errors makes the text difficult to read and significantly impacts the clarity of the communication.
