To begin with, One prominent reason is that, houseowners may want to know weather their property has historical value. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the interest in house history and methods for researching it. The ideas are relevant, such as financial gain and renovation planning. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the section on research methods is quite brief and relies on a personal anecdote rather than a broader exploration of resources like archives or public records. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations or examples, ensuring that the 'how' part of the question is explored with greater depth and academic rigor.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, each with a central topic. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Another reason', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by mechanical or repetitive phrasing. For example, the transition 'Addressing this issue' is slightly awkward in this context. Additionally, some sentences feel disconnected due to punctuation errors, such as the comma usage in 'One prominent reason is that, houseowners...'. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'historical heritage', 'renovate', and 'genealogy'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors. For example, you use 'geology' when you clearly mean 'genealogy' or 'history', and 'weather' instead of 'whether'. These errors are noticeable and occasionally impede the precision of your argument. To improve, focus on learning the correct collocations and ensuring that your vocabulary is used in the appropriate context, rather than attempting to use complex words that may not fit the intended meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'data contains the house genealogy'), article usage (e.g., 'got a old picture'), and incorrect preposition use. Furthermore, there are several punctuation errors, particularly the unnecessary commas after 'that' or 'is'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your points, they occur frequently enough to limit your score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article consistency will help improve your accuracy.
