Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt regarding why people research building history and how they do it. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times confusing. For instance, the writer mentions that people in the past 'lives in a cave' which lacks relevance to the specific prompt about the history of a house or building currently lived in. The 'how' part is touched upon vaguely through mentions of engineers and materials, but lacks concrete research methods like archives, local records, or architectural surveys. While a basic position is presented, the arguments are underdeveloped and wander into generalized historical statements rather than focusing on building research. Consequently, the task response aligns closely with Band 5 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The organizational structure of the essay suffers from erratic paragraphing and a lack of clear overall progression. While some cohesive devices are attempted such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', and 'Alternatively', their usage is often unnatural or misused, as seen in 'Alternatively, houses play quite crucial role...' which does not signal a true alternative argument. Paragraphs are poorly constructed, blending disparate ideas about cave dwellings, modern architecture, and social status without logical transitions. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow the writer's train of thought. These issues place the cohesion and coherence firmly at Band 5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently impeded by inaccurate word choices and word formation errors. Examples include 'houses history' instead of 'house history', 'engaged about' instead of 'interested in', and 'fasinating our new days individuals'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary like 'unparalleled significance' and 'productive material', but these are often incorrectly collocated or used inappropriately in context. Spelling and word choice errors are noticeable throughout the text, causing some difficulty for the reader and limiting the lexical score to a Band 5 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in basic grammar, tense agreement, and punctuation. Examples of severe grammatical lapses include 'how citizens suffer their lives' (likely meaning spend or live their lives), 'in past people lives in a cave and which are made by naturally', and 'if you if study past of every things.' Subject-verb agreement issues and run-on sentences appear in almost every paragraph. Because errors are frequent and occasionally obscure meaning, the grammar warrants a Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0.
