Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the reasons why people are interested in the history of their homes and how they can research this. The main ideas are present, such as understanding property value and connecting with neighbours, and research methods like social media and asking older residents are mentioned. However, the development of these ideas is limited and at times unclear due to confusing phrasing and abrupt transitions. For instance, the notion that knowing history makes people safe is under-developed and lacks clear reasoning. The introduction also relies heavily on copying the prompt rather than paraphrasing effectively. Consequently, the response aligns best with a Band 5 descriptor because it addresses the task but remains partially underdeveloped and hard to follow in places.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into logical paragraphs with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing an attempt at a clear structure. However, overall progression is frequently hindered by mechanical and inaccurate cohesive devices, such as 'Although,' used incorrectly at the start of sentences, and repetitive connectors like 'furthermore, the another reason is.' Referencing is also faulty in places, such as in the phrase 'The pupils who live in apartment, he are knowing about owner and neighbour,' where pronoun reference and subject-verb agreement break down. Paragraphing is present, but the internal logical flow is disrupted by frequent grammatical and lexical awkwardness, placing this performance firmly in Band 5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The lexical range is limited and frequently strained by noticeable errors in word formation, collocation, and choice. Examples include 'more and more individual,' 'showing interested,' 'to knowing history,' and 'negative achivities such as broke wall, spread dirty.' The student attempts less common vocabulary, such as 'pivotal' and 'faciliate,' but these attempts are marred by inaccurate spelling and improper grammatical forms. Although the general topic remains discernible despite these flaws, the high frequency of word-choice errors causes persistent difficulty for the reader, which is characteristic of a Band 5 performance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The response features a very limited range of structures, with frequent and noticeable grammatical errors throughout. Simple sentences are often poorly constructed, and attempts at complex structures are consistently faulty, such as 'Although, this essay will first explore the reason to why the individual show interest to finding about the history where they live in, before discussing How can people research this?' Errors in tense, subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the pupils... he are knowing'), prepositions (e.g., 'history where they live in'), and word forms are pervasive. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from reaching a Band 6.
