Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt regarding why people are interested in the history of their homes and how to research it, but it frequently wanders off-topic into vague discussions about paper documents, uneducated people, and general societal issues. While the student tries to provide reasons (such as bills, taxes, and home buying) and measures (such as education and technology), the development of these ideas is hindered by a lack of clarity and logical connection to the specific task prompt. The position is often unclear due to convoluted phrasing. Consequently, the task response aligns closely with Band 4.5 to 5.0 descriptors, showing partial addressing of the prompt with limited and underdeveloped ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response is divided into four paragraphs, which visually mirrors standard essay structure. However, the internal coherence and logical progression are severely disrupted by disjointed sentences and abrupt shifts in topic, such as moving from house documents to uneducated individuals in the first body paragraph. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or repetitively (e.g., 'Besides,' 'Moreover, when ever,' 'On the other hand, to deal with theis drawbacks, however'). Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow the progression of thought. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal cohesion of the paragraphs is weak, placing the response firmly at Band 4.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used throughout the essay is basic, repetitive, and heavily flawed. The student attempts some less common terms (e.g., 'transcended,' 'underlying factore,' 'socio economic background'), but these are misused or misspelled. There are numerous word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'collects orginal papers,' 'real ducuments,' and 'bought theru house.' Spelling mistakes ('worl', 'connceted', 'factore', 'fof', 'fot', 'unawaed', 'consequence.', 'ducuments', 'theis', 'goverments', 'awarness', 'eleminate') and grammatical word-form errors occur constantly, often straining the reader and impeding overall communication, which reflects a Band 4.0 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying heavily on faulty attempts at complex structures that result in severe structural breakdowns and incomprehensible sentences (e.g., 'For modern societies, few things are more crucial than people are becoming interested in finding out about the history of house or building.'). Punctuation is frequently missing or misused, with spaces omitted after commas and periods. Errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, and clause structure are pervasive throughout the text, causing constant difficulty for the reader and placing the performance at Band 4.0.
