Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the reasons for researching building history and methods for doing so. In the introduction, the writer outlines these areas, and the body paragraphs offer explanations. However, some ideas are underdeveloped or slightly confused, such as the claim that people research history because they are suffering from modern technology and seeking a peaceful environment. Furthermore, the phrasing 'hisotical culture' and minor confusion in parts of the explanation prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Overall, the content is relevant and meets the basic task requirements, aligning well with a Band 6.0 descriptor.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is divided into four paragraphs, providing a coherent overall arrangement. Logical progression is attempted, and the writer uses basic signposts like 'First and foremost' and 'In conclusion'. However, cohesion is frequently mechanical and sometimes faulty. For example, referencing is unclear in sentences such as 'if a person who want to live in there' and 'they using the advanced technological apps'. Paragraphing is present and separates the introduction, reasons, methods, and conclusion, but transitions between ideas within paragraphs can be abrupt. These issues place the response firmly in the Band 5.5 to 6.0 range, and a Band 6.0 is awarded for the clear paragraph structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'architecture styles', 'advanced modern technology', and 'peacefull environment', but there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'enhnace', 'hisotical', 'fast-peaced', 'interetsed', 'softwers', 'anyother', and 'espeasially'. The range of vocabulary is adequate to communicate the main points, but errors in spelling and collocation occasionally cause minor strain for the reader. This performance reflects the criteria for Band 5.0, where vocabulary is adequate for the task but frequent lexical and spelling errors are apparent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in structure. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement, verb tenses, and prepositions. Examples include 'This trend happen because', 'people are more engaged to know', 'where they live in', 'a person who want', and 'government invests more funds on build the museum'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to detract from the overall accuracy of the writing. This corresponds to a Band 5.0 descriptor, where grammatical control is limited and errors cause some difficulty.
