Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing reasons why people research the history of buildings and how they can conduct this research. However, the student's interpretation of the prompt shows some confusion, as they repeatedly refer to ordinary houses or buildings as famous historical monuments such as the 'Taj Mahal' and 'Badshahi Mosque'. The prompt asks about 'the house or building they live in', yet the examples provided are major global or national heritage sites rather than residential homes. Ideas are presented but remain somewhat undeveloped and repetitive, lacking clear extension beyond basic examples like school speeches. This places the response comfortably at Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is divided into paragraphs, though the introduction and conclusion are very brief. There is a basic organizational structure with clear linking phrases like 'first of all' and 'in conclusion'. However, progression is somewhat mechanical and repetitive, especially within body paragraphs where sentences often begin with similar structures ('first of all is that people...'). Referencing is also occasionally unclear, and cohesive devices are overused in a formulaic manner. Overall, the arrangement meets the requirements for a Band 5.5, showing some logical flow but lacking sophisticated cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively limited and repetitive, with frequent misuse of key terms. For instance, the student repeatedly refers to 'finding the histroy of the house' and mentions 'speeching at farewell parties' instead of delivering speeches. There are noticeable spelling errors such as 'histroy' instead of 'history' and minor word-choice inaccuracies. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey basic ideas, the limitations and errors restrict the score to a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control is inconsistent. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the text, such as missing articles ('the history of house or building'), preposition errors ('researching about the history'), and awkward phrasing like 'people are too much interested in researching about'. Frequent errors in clause construction and punctuation occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, aligning the grammar with a Band 5.0 descriptor.
