Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this contemporary era, most of the individuals and nations are keen to know about the past history and information related with their accomodation buildings, appartments and houses. This essay will discuss the reasons and way to carried out this practice.

Firstly, the one major cause behind this interest is safety reason because there are so many buildings and appartments which are constructed under low quality material and unauthorized engineers supervision. If governmet and people find about this techique then they can demolish these places and rebuilt it which can protect millions of people for natural calamities such as earthquake, landslide and flood. Additionally, another main reason is to protect themself from scam. Since, there are majority of builders and offices in the market who sell and exchange houses or buldings according to preferences of people. Sometimes, because of business profit they even sell buldings and appartment with illegal papers. To protect them self from this problem people like to know about the histoyry about the places where they lived. For instance, my brother always investigate about his new accomodation property at beginning to be in safe site as a year ago he got scam with his new property.

Secondly, their are several ways to work out this practice and one effective way is through internet because internet always has information related with the location, establishment date and the engineers who build the particular property. In some cases, customers can even be connected with those people who owned that building before. Furthermore, people can directly go to governmet offices to see the data related with their houses or building before and after their ownership. For example, majority of the people in Nepal directly go to Durbal square if they need any information related with houses or buildings.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that safety reason and frud/ scams are the two significant reasons of this practice and individuals can use internet or governmet offices to find the data related with the history of their property.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the reasons why people are interested in the history of their buildings (safety and preventing scams) and how they can research this (via the internet or government offices). The position is clear throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant and supported with examples, such as the mention of the brother who experienced a property scam and the reference to Durbar Square in Nepal. However, some arguments, particularly regarding the safety aspect and construction materials, could be extended further to fully meet the higher band descriptors. Overall, the task is addressed adequately and competently, leading to a solid band score for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is coherent overall with a clear logical arrangement divided into standard paragraphs. The introduction outlines the direction of the essay, followed by distinct body paragraphs focusing on reasons and methods respectively. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Firstly', 'Additionally', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion', though some referencing can feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, there are occasional awkward transitions and referencing issues that prevent the essay from reaching a higher band in this criterion. Overall, the logical progression is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'contemporary era', 'unauthorized', 'demolish', and 'natural calamities'. However, there are numerous spelling errors ('accomodation', 'appartments', 'governmet', 'rebuilt', 'themself', 'histoyry', 'frud') and occasional awkward word choices, such as 'safe site' instead of 'safe side' and 'got scam' instead of 'was scammed'. These errors do not impede overall communication, but the frequency of spelling mistakes and minor lexical inaccuracies limits the score to a 5.5, reflecting a range that is minimally adequate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional clauses ('If government and people find about this technique then they can demolish these places') and relative clauses ('buildings and appartments which are constructed...'). However, there is a consistent presence of grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout the text, such as missing articles ('safety reason', 'internet always has information'), subject-verb agreement issues ('their are several ways'), and incorrect preposition usage ('connected with those people'). While these errors rarely impede communication, they are frequent enough to place the grammar firmly in the Band 5.5 to 6.0 range, displaying moderate control with persistent flaws.
