Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt—reasons why people research their building's history and how they can research it. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times confused. For instance, the student states in the second paragraph that 'one of the most significant problem associated with histroy bulid is that people want to know who lived in the house previously,' which conflates a reason with a problem. The position is somewhat unclear due to awkward phrasing and circular reasoning. Examples are very brief and lack adequate expansion. While the writer attempts to answer all parts of the task, the overall execution places the response firmly within the lower-middle bands. To improve, the student should ensure that reasons and research methods are clearly distinguished, fully elaborated, and supported by concrete, relevant examples rather than vague generalisations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is organized into four paragraphs, following a standard essay structure, but the progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by poor cohesion and mechanical transitions. Phrases like 'In recent year' and 'in my opinion, this issue are various negetive problem' create a disjointed reading experience. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore,' 'Moreover,' and 'Therefore' are overused or used inappropriately where logical links do not hold. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is weak, and referencing is often unclear, such as 'which can improve they can understand the history of their home more cleary.' The overall arrangement provides a basic framework, but logical flow is frequently compromised by grammatical and lexical barriers, limiting the score for this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The lexical resource is quite limited and heavily impacted by frequent word choice errors, incorrect word forms, and spelling mistakes. Examples from the text include 'histroy bulid' instead of historical building, 'verious perspective' for various perspectives, and 'negetive problem' for negative issues. The vocabulary is repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'issue,' 'research,' and 'problem.' While the student attempts to use less common vocabulary such as 'sustainable balance' in the conclusion, these attempts often result in awkward collocations or are grammatically incorrect in context. The errors cause some difficulty for the reader and impede smooth communication, reflecting the descriptors for a band 4.5 to 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

Grammatical control is weak throughout the essay, with a very limited range of structures and frequent errors. Simple sentences often contain basic agreement errors, such as 'this issue are various negetive problem.' Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, leading to fragmented or run-on structures, such as 'For example, they can find information about previous owners, the age of the building and past changes. which can improve they can understand the history of their home more cleary.' Punctuation is also problematic, with incorrect capitalization at the start of sentences ('in my opinion') and missing commas. Errors are frequent and often cause strain for the reader, placing this performance in the band 4.5 to 5.0 range.
