Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing reasons why people are interested in the history of their homes (such as emotional attachment, financial value, and social media influence) and methods of researching this (such as online searches and talking to neighbours). However, the development of ideas is limited and sometimes confused due to poor expression. For instance, the mention of criminal records and property reputation is a relevant point, but it lacks clear elaboration. The position is generally clear throughout, but the reasoning is often repetitive or weakly supported by the provided examples. While all parts of the prompt are covered, the overall execution places it at Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing each part of the prompt, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and confusing sentence structures. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or used mechanically (e.g., repeating phrases like 'For example' and 'That is the first thing is online'). Referencing is often unclear, making it difficult to follow the flow of arguments between sentences. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs is weak. These issues align with a Band 5.0 descriptor for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and contains numerous spelling and word-choice errors that frequently impede communication. Examples include 'fasinated' for fascinated, 'curiosty' for curiosity, 'hitory' for history, and 'artitecture' for architecture. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items (such as 'renovate', 'emotional attachment', and 'reputations'), but these are often used inaccurately or ungrammatically, such as 'bach history' for background history or 'sale it very high prices'. The density of lexical errors and basic spelling mistakes restricts the score to a Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 based on the attempt at task-specific terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

Grammatical control is weak throughout the essay, with a very high frequency of errors in basic and complex structures alike. The writer attempts complex sentences, but they are almost invariably faulty (e.g., 'A number of people in some countries peoples are becoming to interest to investigate about the history of these building where they live or they buy it'). Subject-verb agreement errors, incorrect verb tenses (mixing past, present, and future awkwardly), and persistent misuse of prepositions and articles are evident in almost every sentence. Simple sentences are also prone to severe structural errors. This performance fits the Band 4.5 descriptors, warranting a 4.5.
