IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In some countries, more and more people are becoming interested in finding out about the history of the house or building they live in.

What are the reasons for this?

How can people research this?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent years, many people are interested in discovering about the historical buildings and the houses they are living in. This interested can be attributes of several reasons, including curiosity about the past and the historical value of old buildings. People can research all these materials through online searching, authorities offices and by local residients.

One of the main reason of people are interested for gaining information is curiosity of the old architecture, their owners and their property value. Many people are interested who was their home owners, when it was constructed and who used to live in it, and how the building has changed over time. In addition, old houses have cultural & historical significance, which encourage them to learn about their heritage. Another reason is people want to understand the design and conditions of buidings, as how was the design, before renovating it. It can help them to improve the infrastructure of those building and also can make decisions for repair and improvement.

There are many ways people can search the information firstly, internet as there are many blogs and articles available online that can help them securing information. Secondly, government local offices can provide the documented proof of such buildings so they can know when the building was constructed, furthermore libraries and other museums helps them if they search for maps. Thirdly, they can contact with locals and neighbours, who can give sufficient information about the historical sites and old buildings.

In conclusion, people are increasingly interested in discovering about the old building in which they are living and also cultural heritage of any historcal place, their construction, designs and property value. These all can be found online and on local goverment offies in libraries in better formats, also by speaking to neighbours.
