Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt, discussing reasons for researching a building's history and ways to conduct such research. However, the interpretation of the prompt leans heavily toward safety and crime rates rather than historical interest, resulting in some under-developed ideas regarding architectural or social history. For example, the student states, 'Mainly, reason for finding out account of the house or buliding is saftey,' which misinterprets the core premise of historical inquiry. While the research methods are partially explored through mentions of Google reviews and visiting the place, the explanations remain somewhat superficial. Consequently, the task is addressed only partially, warranting a band score of 5.0 in accordance with the official descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays some organizational structure with a clear introduction and conclusion, but overall progression is hindered by awkward transitions and disjointed phrasing. For instance, the transition 'Furthermore, due to technological advancement has benefical for this kind of search' contains grammatical errors and fails to logically connect the previous paragraph to research methods. Paragraphing is attempted, but the body paragraphs mix ideas about safety, crime, and online reviews rather than maintaining a clear focus. Cohesive devices are frequently inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the overuse of 'for instance' and simple connectors. Referencing and logical progression are occasionally unclear, reflecting the characteristics of a band 5.0 performance.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses a limited and occasionally repetitive vocabulary, with noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples of awkward word choice and spelling mistakes include 'plce' instead of place, 'buliding' instead of building, 'saftey' instead of safety, and 'rapped' instead of raped. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'technological advancement' and 'advantageous,' inaccuracies in collocation and word formation persist throughout the text, such as 'investigation history' and 'fare more advantageous.' These lexical limitations restrict the range to a minimally adequate level, aligning well with the criteria for band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response features a limited range of sentence structures, with frequent grammatical errors that often cause difficulty for the reader. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty, such as 'Recently, gradual increase in trend of investigation history of the plce in which people reside in few countries.' There are pervasive errors in article usage, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, including 'By taking reviews of people to account' and 'investigate te area previously before moving in.' Punctuation is also problematic in places. Because the frequent errors hinder smooth readability and complex structures are poorly controlled, the response fits the band 5.0 descriptor.
