Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons why people are curious about their homes and suggesting research methods. However, the ideas remain highly undeveloped and repetitive, lacking specific examples or well-supported arguments. Furthermore, the response suffers from a severe length penalty, containing only 144 words against the required 250-word minimum. This results in a partial and truncated treatment of the task, meeting the criteria for Band 4.0 where the task is responded to only minimally and ideas are insufficiently extended.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The text lacks proper paragraphing, presented instead as a series of poorly structured, run-on blocks of text. Cohesive devices are minimal or misused, such as repetitive transitions like 'for instance' and 'moreover' which fail to establish a clear logical progression. Referencing is frequently unclear, as seen in the ambiguous pronoun use in sentences like 'how this place become developed who lived before us'. There is no overall organizational structure guiding the reader through the response, limiting coherence to a Band 4.0 level.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent word-choice errors and incorrect collocations, such as 'curious to finding about' instead of 'curious to find out about'. Spelling errors are also prevalent throughout the text, including words like 'thier', 'lifes', 'develope', 'easiy', and 'differnt'. The lexical range is extremely limited and inadequate for discussing this academic topic, aligning closely with the descriptors for Band 4.0 where vocabulary strains the reader and errors are frequent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

Grammatical control is extremely weak throughout the response. There is a heavy reliance on simple sentence structures, and attempts at complex or compound structures are consistently faulty, often lacking necessary punctuation and conjunctions. Frequent errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, and clause structure significantly impede communication, as seen in 'before this building what was their which kind of peope before us'. These persistent structural inaccuracies place the performance firmly at Band 4.0.
