Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the reasons why people research their house history and the methods used to conduct this research, meeting the requirements well. The ideas are relevant and supported with personal examples, such as the mention that 'my uncle once told me that his house was build by local businessman more then 50 years ago.' However, the development of ideas remains somewhat basic and repetitive, heavily relying on personal anecdotes and generalities rather than extended academic analysis. Furthermore, there are multiple issues with basic phrasing and mechanical repetition of ideas, which place this response firmly in the Band 6 category.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure consisting of an introduction, body paragraphs addressing reasons and methods respectively, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is often faulty or mechanical. The student overuses repetitive transitional structures and basic linkers such as 'Secondly,' 'There are several ways,' and 'Third and most interesting way.' Referencing is also problematic in several places, notably with pronouns like 'there house' where 'their house' was intended, making the logical progression slightly strained at times. Overall, the organizational framework is adequate for a Band 6 score.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, but contains numerous noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and grammar. The student frequently confuses homophones or uses incorrect prepositions, such as writing 'interested to finding' instead of 'interested in finding', and writing 'there history' instead of 'their history'. While there are attempts to use less common vocabulary like 'government institution' and 'surroundings', these are offset by persistent basic lexical inaccuracies. Communication is not seriously impeded, but the high frequency of vocabulary errors prevents the essay from reaching Band 6.5 or higher.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. Frequent grammatical errors occur throughout the text, including tense issues and missing verbs, such as 'his house was build' (built), 'what type of material used in it' (was used), and 'more then' (than). Punctuation and article usage are also weak in places. Although the meaning remains understandable and some complex structures are successfully attempted, the high density of basic grammatical slips places this performance at Band 5.0.
