Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by identifying reasons for researching a building's history and outlining research methods. However, the ideas lack full development and depth. For instance, the reasons given in the second paragraph repeat similar points regarding curiosity and materials without much elaboration, while the examples of research methods are somewhat repetitive or superficial (e.g., mentioning "state agents" or general online databases). The position is generally clear throughout, but the reasoning tends to be circular at times. Overall, the performance aligns well with Band 6, as all parts of the prompt are addressed with relevant, though slightly under-developed, ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay presents a clear overall arrangement with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing the two prompt questions, and a brief conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. Phrases such as "Firstly," "Secondly," and "Thirdly" are relied upon heavily, and some referencing is unclear, such as "give a proper documents or papers that easily help individuals for the origin." Furthermore, the concluding sentence is a run-on sentence that fails to properly link the ideas together. These features reflect a typical Band 6 performance where logical organisation is present, but cohesive devices are sometimes awkwardly managed.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as "emotional connection," "enthusiastic," and "state agents." However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors, such as writing "reside it" instead of "reside in," "agr" instead of "age," and "emotinal attachment." Words are occasionally misused or awkwardly phrased, such as "major amount of curiosity." While communication is not impeded, these frequent lexical inaccuracies prevent the writing from achieving a higher band, placing it firmly at Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in sentence structures. However, there are persistent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ("what material were used," "families were lived there"), article errors ("the history of the house or an apartment"), and preposition mistakes. The final conclusion sentence is also grammatically tangled and run-on ("...due to the major amount of curiosity and emotinal attachment but online atabases, newpapers can help them to finf out..."). Because these errors occur frequently alongside complex structures without completely obscuring meaning, a Band 5.0 or 6.0 is appropriate, leaning towards 5.5 due to the density of basic and complex structural errors.
