Student answer (Band 5.0)
in some countries, more and more people are becoming interested in finding out about the history of the house or the building they live in. The reason behind this is mainy, they want to know the ancestors that lived in the place in the past. How they lived there and how they maintained the place. Also people are tend to know the old history now so they become so eager to know the old history of the place they live in. People can research the informations and datas by the previous landlord from whom they bought the property from or if they live in rent, then they can direct ask the owner about this. or if they live in some well-known, prastigious place, then they can research it online. it gives them direct solid datas of the place. for example, if someone lives in Jamuna future park, which is located in Dhaka, if they want to know the history or back story of Jamuna future park, they can direct research about it online or even they can ask someone in Jamuna future park who works there from the beginning. to know the history of the place where we reside in, is an amazing thing a person can do. it as well as gives us the knowledge about the history and also about the individuals who lived there. thus, we can resonate with the place so much.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the main task requirements by discussing reasons for researching building history and methods for doing so, but ideas remain limited and under-developed. Furthermore, the length requirement is NOT met, as the essay falls short of the two hundred and fifty-word minimum by fourteen words. The reasons provided, such as wanting to know about past ancestors, are generalised and lack sufficient extension. Similarly, the methods suggested for research are basic and rely on repetitive examples, such as referencing Jamuna Future Park, which reflects a lack of thorough development. To move up to a higher band, the writer must ensure the word count requirement is fully satisfied and extend each main idea with more detailed explanations, concrete reasoning, and well-developed real-world examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation present, but the overall progression of ideas is lacking. The essay is divided into paragraphs, but transitional phrases are weak or repetitive, and cohesive devices are frequently inadequate or mechanical. For instance, sentences often begin abruptly with words like "Also" or "or if", creating a disjointed reading experience. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as pronoun use in the conclusion ("it as well as gives us..."). Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal flow within paragraphs needs substantial improvement. To achieve a higher level, the writer needs to employ a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices, ensure logical transitions between sentences, and structure each paragraph around a clear, unified central topic that drives the argument forward smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common terms like "prastigious" and "resonate", but there are noticeable spelling errors ("mainy", "datas", "prastigious") and awkward word choices ("direct ask", "direct research"). Repetition of basic words is also apparent throughout the text, such as constantly reusing terms like "history", "place", and "research". These lexical inadequacies and errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To progress to a higher band, the writer must expand their vocabulary range, ensure accurate word formation and spelling, and use less common lexical items with a clearer understanding of collocation and appropriate style.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic coordination. Attempts at more complex structures are frequently faulty, such as in the sentence beginning with "or if they live in some well-known..." which lacks a proper main clause. Frequent grammatical errors are present, including issues with subject-verb agreement ("people are tend to"), missing articles ("in rent"), incorrect preposition usage, and pervasive punctuation and capitalization errors, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters ("in some countries", "to know the history"). These frequent errors cause strain and difficulty for the reader. To reach a higher standard, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence forms accurately and eliminate basic structural and punctuation errors.
