Student answer (Band 5.0)
In many countries, greater numbers of people are becoming more curious in discovering about the history of the accomodation or building they are living. There are several reasons why people are doing this and also there are many possible ways to deeply research in this context.
On the one hand, the main reasons of people becoming more interested about the history of the house or building they are living is basically of safety reason. People's spend more amount of money for their accomodation because they want their family to live in luxurious style and they want to provide every facilities needed for daily life. For example, due to many climatical reasons nowadays, different natural hazards are encountering the livelihood and earthquake hazard is one of this and it is increasing in many countries and safety needs are also the priority of people, so people want to know about the structure and the properties of the house and if they had followed the requirement to provide safety if that type of hazardous situations comes.
On the other hand, people can also reaserch this by following the government rules and policies. They can find out about the structure, construction related work and the materials that are used during the construction by simply going to the infrastructure office. For instance, they can write a letter about the description of the blueprint or requrement policies of the house or building introduced by government, they are living and they can reasearch deeply about every thing so that they can ensure their family safety.
In conclusion, people spent more money in accomodation and their safety so that people have rights to know about the background of the house or building they live and ensure their family safety.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the two parts of the prompt regarding the reasons for researching a building's history and how to do so, though the treatment is limited and under-developed. Nine words copied directly from the prompt were not counted towards the overall length. The position is discernible but not always clear, and the ideas presented lack sufficient extension. For instance, the discussion on safety is repetitive and focuses heavily on natural hazards like earthquakes without fully exploring broader historical or architectural motivations. Similarly, the method of research is restricted to visiting an infrastructure office or writing a letter, which limits the scope of the second part of the task. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to provide fully developed ideas with broader supporting explanations and clear examples that directly answer all aspects of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates some organisation with a clear attempt at a four-paragraph structure, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression throughout the text. Cohesive devices are sometimes inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand,' which are used incorrectly here since the body paragraphs do not present contrasting arguments, but rather two separate sub-topics (reasons and methods). Referencing is also occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'in this context' and pronouns that do not always link smoothly to their antecedents. To improve, the writer should ensure that cohesive devices are used more naturally and that paragraphs progress logically from one main idea to the next without mechanical transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word formation that cause some difficulty for the reader, such as 'curious in discovering' instead of 'curious to discover', 'accomodation' (spelling error), 'climatical reasons', and 'reaserch'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'infrastructure office' and 'blueprint', but these are often used inaccurately or inappropriately in context. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical range, pay closer attention to spelling and word formation, and ensure that collocations are natural and precise, such as using 'housing' or 'buildings' instead of repeating basic terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer displays a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on basic patterns. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, these are frequently faulty, leading to grammatical errors that can cause difficulty for the reader. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, and prepositions within grammatical patterns, such as 'building they are living' missing a preposition, 'People's spend more amount of money', and 'if that type of hazardous situations comes'. Punctuation and article usage also show frequent inaccuracies, including run-on sentences in the body paragraphs. To progress, the writer needs to increase the variety of error-free complex structures and improve basic grammatical control, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement, prepositions, and relative clauses.
