Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response addresses the task only partially and struggles to maintain a clear focus on the prompt. While the prompt asks for the reasons people research the history of their houses and how they can research this, the student largely drifts into discussing why people rebuild or reconstruct their homes due to financial and property value reasons, such as 'an evident increase in the financial value of lands and properties.' The second part of the prompt—how people can actually research their home's history—is entirely omitted. Ideas are limited and under-developed, relying on repetitive assertions rather than clear examples or explanations of historical research methods. To improve towards higher bands, the writer must ensure all parts of the prompt are fully answered, directly addressing both the reasons for investigating building history and the practical research methods involved.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response displays some organization, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas, resulting in a somewhat disjointed structure. Paragraphing is attempted, but transitions between paragraphs feel abrupt and lack logical connection, such as the sudden shift from property values to human population growth in the third paragraph. Cohesive devices are used minimally and sometimes inaccurately, leading to a mechanical flow where referencing is not always clear (e.g., 'By applyting this, people tends to...'). To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to ensure a smoother logical progression from one idea to the next, using a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices to link sentences and paragraphs effectively, while making sure every paragraph directly supports a central theme related to the prompt.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, containing noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, but this frequently leads to awkward phrasing or incorrect word choice, such as 'humen population has significantly rise' and 'finacial freedom.' There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors like 'Primarly' and 'applyting.' While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey a basic drift of meaning, the frequent slips in word formation and collocation prevent the response from achieving a higher band. To improve, the writer should focus on expanding their working vocabulary, ensuring accurate word forms, and checking spelling carefully before finishing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences alongside attempts at more complex forms that are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and plurals throughout the text, such as 'more and more people are becoming... are rapidly started' and 'properties situated in the radius of that one particular landmark gets beneficial boost.' These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader in untangling the intended meaning. To move up to the next band, the writer must demonstrate better control over basic grammatical patterns, ensure accurate subject-verb agreement, and produce a higher proportion of error-free sentences when attempting complex sentence structures.
