Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, many people from some countries take interest in exploring history of their homes or buildings. The reasons behind this trending activity include safety by knowing strength of material used and to find out attributes of previous generation. This can be done by testing the material used and by getting information from olders or history books.

Most of people from some countries want to know about their residential area because they have concern about their safety. As many families buy apartments that are already built by government or someone else by long time ago, they do not know about what type of building material is used to construct this apartment, whether this building material is capable of holding or its strength is lost over time. So they want to explore this as they are concerned about the safety of themselves and their families in cases of natural disasters, for instance, Earthquake.

Another reason for this activity is that some people are curious to know about their ancestors and their attributes. So they explore historical parts of their buildings to learn about lifestyle of their ancestors. Moreover, they want to explore their unique capabilities and strengths. For example, research data suggests that many new technologies have their basics linked with history as researchers explored ancient areas and got the know how of various unique material and its uses.

This information can be achieved by multiple ways. To know about building material, it can be checked through use of modern technology which is capable of determining the age of material. In addition to this, historical literature can be reviewed to get knowledge about ancestors and their way of life. Also olders can be interviewed for this purpose so that information obtained can be crosschecked and verified.

In conclusion, many people are exploring history of their residence buildings to ensure their safety and to find out relationship with their ancestors which occupy that building before. This can be done by testing material of building and collecting information from literature and elders.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the reasons why people research their home's history and the methods used to do so. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. While the explanation regarding safety and structural integrity is reasonably clear, the connection between researching ancestors and exploring building history is somewhat generalized. Furthermore, the notion that researchers look at ancient areas to understand unique materials is slightly blurred between historical genealogy and archaeological building analysis. The position is generally clear throughout, but deeper extension of ideas would be needed to reach a higher level of achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from reasons to research methods, concluding with a summary. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct points, such as safety concerns versus ancestor curiosity. However, cohesion is at times somewhat mechanical or repetitive, utilizing basic transitional markers like 'Another reason' and 'In addition to this.' Referencing is generally functional, but occasional awkward phrasing creates minor jolts in the flow of ideas, reflecting a competent yet standard management of organizational tools.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their ideas effectively despite noticeable limitations. There are attempts to use less common items and academic phrasing, such as 'structural integrity' equivalents or 'natural disasters,' but these are sometimes accompanied by awkward word choices and collocation slips, such as 'trending activity' instead of 'growing trend,' or 'olders' instead of 'elders.' Spelling is generally accurate, and while word-choice errors occur occasionally, they do not impede communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and subordinate structures. However, there are some noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly with articles, plurals, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns, such as missing articles ('exploring history of their homes') and awkward prepositions ('by long time ago'). Despite these errors in grammar, the sentence structures remain largely functional and communication is rarely impeded, representing a solid mix of simple and complex constructions.
