Student answer (Band 5.0)
Nowadays, it is being quite popular that residents of a flat or building wants to know the background knowledge about the place they live in. And that curiosity can com across due to various reasons, and to address that people have different types of research sources today, which I have discussed in this essay.
Firstly, this curiosity is rising among residents, because many people wants to know about the security and safety environment in their region of stay of the past. For instances, if they find that region in which they live in, had higher street crimes in past, so they can learn about potential threats, and possibly can change their accommodation in future for the purpose of ensuring more safety for their loved ones. And the people can research about this, through social media sites eg_ reddit where people openly share their past experiences, like about the times they became victims of any violence or street crime act at any particular region.
On the other hand, this curiosity may also arise to evaluate the quality of the building they live in, because people sometime need to know about

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response responds to the task only minimally, as it is incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence in the second body paragraph. Furthermore, the length requirement of 250 words is not met, as the student's response contains only 189 words. While the writer attempts to address both parts of the prompt regarding reasons and research methods, the ideas remain limited and under-developed due to the truncated nature of the essay and the lack of a concluding paragraph. To improve significantly, the writer must ensure the essay is fully completed and reaches the required word count with extended, well-supported arguments for every part of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation with the use of cohesive markers such as 'Firstly' and 'On the other hand', but the overall progression of ideas is hindered by the abrupt ending of the text. Paragraphing is attempted, but the second body paragraph is incomplete. Referencing is sometimes unclear, for instance using informal abbreviations like 'eg_ reddit' rather than proper integration into the sentence structure. Cohesive devices are occasionally repetitive or somewhat mechanical. To achieve a higher level, the essay needs a clear overall progression from introduction through fully developed body paragraphs to a proper conclusion, using a wider and more seamless variety of cohesive ties.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, featuring basic items and some noticeable errors. There are awkward word choices and collocations, such as 'background knowledge about the place' instead of 'history' or 'provenance', and 'com across' instead of 'come across'. Spelling and word form issues also appear, such as the informal inclusion of social media references. While communication is not entirely blocked in the completed portions, the range is restricted. To improve, the writer should incorporate less common lexical items, precise academic phrasing, and ensure accurate collocations and word forms throughout.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text displays a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple or attempted complex sentences that contain frequent errors. There are noticeable mistakes in subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'residents of a flat or building wants' where the verb does not agree with the plural subject, and 'in past' missing an article. Other errors involve prepositional usage in grammatical patterns, such as 'region of stay of the past'. These frequent errors require the reader to occasionally pause or re-read sections to decipher the meaning. To progress, the writer needs to demonstrate greater control over complex sentence forms and eliminate basic grammatical inaccuracies.
