Student answer (Band 4.5)

Nowdays, most of the peoples in many countries are very much keen to know about the ancient belives of the houses or buildings they live in.This situation can be attributed by certain definite factors.

The most convincing reason behind this situation is that now number of scams are increasing day by day. Robbers are now become more smarter, just because of this they make people fool easily. Duplicate documents are now available everywhere and it looks like real once. For example, people can now sale any property or robbed vehicle to other party by showing false documents.

People have to do research about the history of the house and they have to ask the neighbour about the house. They have to verify the documents by the lawyer and check wheather the documents are true.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response addresses the prompt only minimally, which places it at a lower level of achievement. It is also important to note the length requirement: the text contains 134 words, falling significantly short of the 250-word minimum specified for Academic Task 2. While the writer attempts to identify reasons why people research building history and how they can do it, the ideas remain extremely limited and underdeveloped. For instance, the main reason provided focuses on property scams and fake documents rather than broader historical curiosity, and the research methods mentioned are restricted to basic actions like asking neighbours and checking documents with a lawyer. To reach a higher standard, the writer would need to fully develop both parts of the prompt with extended explanations and relevant examples while meeting the required word count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The text shows some basic organisation with an introduction and brief body paragraphs, but information and ideas are not arranged in a thoroughly coherent manner. Paragraphing is attempted, yet transitions between sentences feel abrupt and lack clear overall progression. For example, moving directly from the mention of scams into specific research methods lacks smooth cohesive ties. Basic cohesive devices are present, but referencing can be unclear, such as the pronoun use in phrases like "just because of this they make people fool easily". To improve cohesion and progress to the next level, the writer needs to ensure a logical flow of ideas throughout the response, use paragraphing more effectively to group related points, and apply a wider range of cohesive devices naturally without mechanical repetition.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, representing a limited yet minimally adequate range for the task. The writer relies heavily on simple terms and makes noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as "ancient belives", "more smarter", and "robbed vehicle" instead of stolen vehicle. Additionally, spelling and word formation errors appear, such as "Nowdays", which can cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher score in lexical resource, the writer must incorporate a wider and more precise range of vocabulary, attempt less common lexical items with greater accuracy, and pay closer attention to natural collocations and correct word forms suitable for an academic context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a very limited range of structures, consisting mainly of simple sentences and basic patterns. Attempts at complex sentences often result in faulty grammar, such as "This situation can be attributed by certain definite factors" (where the preposition is incorrect) and "check wheather the documents are true". Frequent errors occur in verb forms, plurals, and prepositions, including "peoples" and "make people fool". Punctuation is also basic. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures with increased accuracy, maintain better control over subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions, and significantly reduce the frequency of basic grammatical mistakes.
