Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
Your response is significantly under the minimum length requirement, as it contains only 106 words instead of the required 250. Because of this severe limitation, you only touch upon the task minimally. You briefly mention reasons why people are interested in the history of their homes, such as wanting to know about ancestors or because they are curious, but these ideas remain very limited and under-developed. Furthermore, the second part of the prompt regarding how people can research this history is largely missing, apart from a brief personal anecdote at the end. To improve your task achievement, you must ensure you write at least 250 words and fully address all parts of the prompt by explaining multiple clear reasons and detailing practical research methods with relevant examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
Your essay lacks overall progression and clear paragraphing, which makes the text difficult to follow. There are no clear paragraph breaks, as everything is written as a single block of text or disjointed sentences. Cohesive devices are largely absent or inadequate, leading to abrupt transitions between sentences, such as jumping suddenly from modern technology to asking about ancestors without logical connectors like 'consequently' or 'furthermore'. To improve, you need to organise your ideas into logical paragraphs, using an introduction, clear body paragraphs for reasons and research methods, and a conclusion. Additionally, you should employ appropriate cohesive devices to link your sentences and ideas smoothly, ensuring the reader can easily follow your line of argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
Your vocabulary is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple words and phrases such as 'people', 'history', 'know', and 'house'. There are noticeable errors in word choice and word formation, such as 'Man has fond of knowledge' instead of 'Humans have a thirst for knowledge', and 'the house who built' instead of 'who built the house'. These errors and the limited range occasionally strain the reader. To lift your score in lexical resource, you should try to use a wider range of less common vocabulary and ensure correct word forms and collocations. For instance, instead of repeating simple verbs, try incorporating more precise academic terms related to history, architecture, and research methods.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
Your writing shows a very limited range of sentence structures, consisting mostly of short, simple sentences that are often connected with punctuation errors. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout your response, including missing articles ('history of house'), incorrect prepositions ('Where I lived in our house this is made by my grandfather'), tense inconsistencies ('it built with bricks'), and issues with subject-verb agreement. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and sometimes distort your intended meaning. To improve your grammatical range and accuracy, you need to practise forming complex sentences with dependent clauses, pay closer attention to basic verb tenses and auxiliary verbs, and ensure correct punctuation and capitalization throughout your writing.
