Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, exploring both the reasons why people research their building's history and the methods used to conduct this research. The content is relevant throughout, presenting clear arguments regarding emotional connection and potential economic value, alongside practical methods such as checking legal records and utilizing digital resources. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed; for instance, the explanation of economic value could have been expanded with a more detailed example rather than a brief mention of a famous personality. The position is clear throughout, and the response fulfills the requirements of the task by presenting a well-rounded discussion that bridges both parts of the prompt effectively, leaning into the higher band through its thorough coverage of all required prompt elements.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, separating the reasons in the second paragraph from the methods in the third paragraph. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader, such as 'The first reliable approach' and 'Furthermore', though referencing and transitions occasionally feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to structure the essay logically. To reach a higher band, the transitions between sentences could be made more fluid and natural, reducing the reliance on formulaic transitional markers and ensuring that the logical relationship between ideas is seamlessly maintained throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'inhabit', 'municipal offices', and 'historical societies'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'going trend' instead of 'growing trend', 'reasearch' instead of 'research', 'residental' instead of 'residential', 'reson' instead of 'reason', 'histrocial values' instead of 'historical value', 'real state market' instead of 'real estate market', 'buliding' instead of 'building', 'socities' instead of 'societies', and 'informations' (which is uncountable). These errors, while not completely impeding communication, occur frequently enough to restrict the lexical score, demonstrating an adequate range with some persistent inaccuracies in spelling and word form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at relative clauses and conditional structures. There are, however, some recurring errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues and awkward phrasing such as 'people is becoming interested', 'makes this research' instead of 'make this research', 'make individuals to reasearch' instead of 'make individuals research', and 'People wants' instead of 'People want'. Additionally, articles and singular/plural forms are occasionally misused, as seen in 'help a people to research'. Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, and the sentence structures remain generally understandable, reflecting a mix of forms with some errors that do not block overall comprehension.
