Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the reasons why people are interested in the history of their houses and the ways to research this information. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times repetitive. For instance, the emotional connection reason is explained through a somewhat repetitive example involving parents and grandparents, while the discussion on property value lacks depth and specific context. The ideas presented are relevant to the task, but they remain under-developed rather than fully extended, which keeps the response at this level. To move further, you should provide more elaborated, distinct examples and explore the underlying social or financial motivations in greater detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into an introduction, body paragraphs addressing each part of the prompt, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons from the research methods. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing can be unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'a man who spend his all life in one house, now he want to how their prents spent her life'. Transitional devices like 'One way is' and 'Another way is' are rather basic and repetitive. To improve coherence, you need to employ a wider and more natural variety of cohesive devices and ensure that referencing pronouns clearly point to their intended antecedents.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to communicate basic ideas about buildings and research methods. You make several noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling, such as 'whobare are intrested', 'hidtory', 'emotinal', 'garend parents', 'Fifferent', and 'discoving'. While these errors do not completely prevent understanding, they cause some difficulty for the reader and reveal a restricted control over lexical items. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your range of vocabulary, use less common lexical items with greater precision, and pay much closer attention to standard spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The text displays a very limited range of structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic subject-verb patterns. When you attempt more complex structures, they are frequently faulty, leading to grammar and punctuation errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('there is increasing numbers'), tense errors ('a person a lived', 'he want to how'), and missing articles or prepositions. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and restrict the grammatical range. To improve, you need to practice forming accurate complex sentences, monitor subject-verb agreement closely, and ensure correct verb tense consistency.
