Student answer (Band 4.5)

Nowadays, In some countries, many people are becoming interested in finding out about the history of the house or building they live in. Many people asked questions like what are the reasons for this? and how can people research this? Now, I will explain the answers to these questions.

Firstly, the main reasons for finding is knowledge because some people are so curious that they want to get the answers about every question like "why it is here?" and "who made this?". They want to get the knowledge about the last emperors and other types of kings who ruled on the place where they are living today because they thought that knowledge is power and in future, if somebody asked them to tell about your land and city. So if they had the knowledge about that particular thing, then they will be able to answer that question.

Secondly, many people are also doing this for tyhe government as a government job. Because we know that there is oil and many expensive things in the deep of the earth. So that's why they are looking for something special which will help their country in the near future and also the government i spaying them well.

PEOPLE CAN DO THIS RESEARCH BY USING TECHNOLOGICAL AND NEW ELECTRICAL INSTRUMENTS.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response sits at this band because it addresses the task only minimally and fails to meet the length requirement. Please note that 18 words copied directly from the task prompt were not counted, bringing the total word count to 198 words, which is 52 words short of the 250-word minimum. Regarding the content, the two parts of the prompt (reasons and methods) are touched upon, but the ideas are extremely limited and under-developed. For instance, the reason is vaguely attributed to 'curiosity' or 'government jobs' regarding oil, and the research method is merely stated in capital letters as using 'TECHNOLOGICAL AND NEW ELECTRICAL INSTRUMENTS' without any explanation or relevant examples. To improve, the student must write at least 250 words and fully explain and support their ideas with clear examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates some organisation through the use of transition markers like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly', but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. The introductory paragraph relies heavily on copying the prompt and includes unnecessary conversational filler ('Now, I will explain the answers to these questions'). Paragraphing is attempted, but the concluding research point is abruptly written in capital letters without proper integration into the essay structure. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes inaccurately, such as repetitive referencing. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to ensure a logical flow of ideas from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion, using a wider variety of cohesive ties naturally without over-relying on basic sequencing words.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic meaning. The student uses some common vocabulary items such as 'curious', 'knowledge', 'government', and 'country'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that detract from the writing, such as writing 'tyhe' instead of 'the', 'spaying' instead of 'paying', and 'finding' instead of 'findings'. The range of vocabulary is restricted, and attempts at less common words result in awkward phrasing like 'deep of the earth' instead of 'depths of the earth'. To improve, the writer should expand their vocabulary range, learn correct word forms and spellings, and practice natural collocations related to history and architecture.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response features a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and basic coordination. Attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty, leading to run-on sentences and grammatical errors. There are frequent errors in articles, prepositions, and clause structures, such as 'rulers on the place where they are living today' and 'every question like "why it is here?"'. Punctuation is also problematic, particularly with capitalization and quotation marks. To achieve a higher band, the student must demonstrate better control over complex sentence forms, ensure correct subject-verb agreement and article usage, and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical errors that disrupt the reader's understanding.
