In recent years, a growing number of people have become curious about the past of the homes th ey live in. However they can find through many practical ways.

One of the main reason for this is interest in heritage as identity. As cities modernize , old structures are demolished, people feel need to connect with local history and preserves what is left behind.Owning or renting house is being smaller part of the history. Another reason is practical, buy knowing the building's age and alterations can help people to decide how to rennovate and repair, and a documented history can increase its market value. Also media and television programmes have made family and local history fashionable. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the task, discussing both the reasons why people research their homes and how they can carry out this research. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. Ideas are generally extended and supported, such as when explaining heritage as identity and practical renovation needs, and providing examples like the television show 'A House Through Time' and consulting official records. However, there is a tendency to over-generalise in places, and some ideas lack full extension, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band level. Overall, the prompt requirements are well met with relevant examples and logical explanations covering causes and methods.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response presents a clear overall progression with a logically organised structure that separates reasons and research methods into distinct paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'One of the main reason for this', 'Another reason is', and 'There are several way to carry out this research'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to group related concepts. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, and referencing is not always completely clear, with occasional lapses in logical flow between sentences. To reach the next level, the connections between sentences could be made smoother and more sophisticated, avoiding slightly repetitive transitional patterns while maintaining a fully transparent overall structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'heritage as identity', 'modernize', and 'census data'. However, there are some noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and spelling, such as 'rennovate', 'throiugh', 'buy knowing' instead of 'by knowing', and 'far more easier'. These errors in word form and spelling reflect a typical performance that demonstrates an adequate working vocabulary but lacks the precision and stylistic awareness required for higher bands. The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main points clearly, but occasional slips prevent the resource from achieving greater flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use varied structures like subordinate clauses and relative clauses, as seen in 'people feel need to connect with local history and preserves what is left behind'. However, there are frequent errors in grammar, articles, agreements, and punctuation, such as missing articles in 'consult official records of property', incorrect verb forms like 'These shows', and punctuation/spacing issues throughout the text. These frequent errors require some effort from the reader to decode meaning and indicate the characteristics of a lower-to-mid grammar band. Greater control over complex sentence patterns and reduced error frequency are needed to progress.
