Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the prompt minimally, attempting to cover both the reasons why people research building history and how they can research it, though the ideas remain very limited and under-developed. While eight words copied directly from the prompt were excluded from the official count, the text successfully meets the minimum word count requirement. However, the explanation of reasons remains disjointed and difficult to follow, as seen in vague phrases like 'some people live in house. Many people build own house and some old generation pattern.' The methods of research mentioned, such as visiting a 'local libarary' or searching on a 'webside', are surface-level and lack adequate support or extension. To move to a higher band, the writer would need to fully develop clear, relevant ideas with specific explanations and examples rather than presenting fragmented and repetitive thoughts.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The text demonstrates a basic overall attempt at organization, utilizing paragraph breaks to separate the introduction, body points, and conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and the relationships between sentences are often strained or confusing. Cohesive devices are used inadequately or inaccurately, such as the abrupt transitional phrases 'All the aspects would be discussed in upcoming paragraphs' and 'Another method is to visit local libarary'. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it hard to determine what pronouns like 'they' and 'their' refer to in context. To achieve a higher level of coherence and cohesion, the writer must ensure logical sequencing between sentences, employ cohesive devices more naturally, and maintain clear topic progression throughout each paragraph.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, utilizing a limited range appropriate for the task only in a rudimentary way. There are frequent lexical errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally strain the reader, such as 'incrising' instead of increasing, 'residents own condition', 'indivitual', 'webside', and 'libarary'. The writer attempts to use less common vocabulary like 'historical information' and 'cultural activities', but these attempts are marred by inaccurate collocations and awkward phrasing. To improve this criterion, the writer needs to expand their control over word forms, improve spelling accuracy, and integrate a more varied and precise range of vocabulary suited to academic writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical structures employed are very limited, relying primarily on simple sentence forms. Attempts at more complex sentences are frequently faulty, leading to distorted meanings and broken syntax, as seen in 'If they have not own or rental house so some season they in trouble.' There are frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions within grammatical patterns—for example, 'people may live have been importance own house' and 'how to we find house'. Punctuation is also inconsistently handled. To reach a higher band, the writer must demonstrate control over a wider variety of complex grammatical structures and significantly reduce the frequency of basic grammatical errors.
