Student answer (Band 5.5)
People are interested in many type of things nowadays. They want to know the details of every thing they own. Many people are interested of knowing about history of different things they have, history about culture but they are more interested in knowing the history of place they live. They do this to increase their knowledge, and it can done by doing research on it.
Their could be many different reasons of it. They do this to have a knowledge of age of the building. If they want to sell their houses so they can put it in advertisement. It also help them in doing the maintainance work of the building, how much work is required to keep the house or building remain standing. If the building is much older, this make the base of house or building weaker. This could help them in making the decision if they have to demolish the building or not, and build the new one. People also get to know about the age of material used in the construction of that architecture. Finding this provide a person, if they are living in a safer environment or not. I remeber a government official visited my house, and he told us about the history of our house, how old it is. It was a part of goverment scheme to tell every owner of the building or houses, so they should maintain their house accordingly, and have safer living. If a person is new to that place, they are eager to know if any illegal activity is done at this place or not.
People can do research about it, in many ways. If a family or person shifted to any new place, and they want to know about its history. They can visit any old neighbour there. They are the good source of providing the history. On other side, a person can visit local municipal office, or government institutes which keep records of this thing. Yesterday, I was standing in supermarket, there I heard from a person telling his friend. He tells he got the history of place where he resides from a local estate agent.
It can be concluded, as the environment is changing, people are becoming more curious to get to know about the history of the place where they resides. They think it as a important thing to know, get aware of every situation. This also make them ready for any problem if occured in future. This also helps in maintaining living standards, and also maintaining their resident.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses both questions: it gives reasons for investigating a building’s past, including assessing its age, safety and maintenance needs, and suggests asking neighbours, consulting municipal records and contacting an estate agent. The personal example of a government official explaining the house’s history also supports the discussion. These ideas are relevant, but some are not fully explained. For instance, the possibility of illegal activity is mentioned without showing how this would motivate research, and the estate-agent example is only briefly reported. The opening and conclusion repeat general points about curiosity and awareness rather than adding a clear summary of the main reasons and research methods. Develop each key point with a more explicit explanation or example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph on reasons, one on research methods, and a conclusion. This helps the reader follow the broad progression from why people investigate to how they can do so. However, connections between ideas are sometimes mechanical or unclear. For example, “On other side” does not clearly signal the relationship between asking neighbours and consulting official records, while “This also” is repeated in the conclusion without precise links to the preceding points. Some sentences in the reasons paragraph move quickly from selling a house to maintenance, safety and illegal activity. Group related ideas more deliberately, use clear transitions, and make references such as “this” or “they” unambiguous to improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate its main ideas, including “advertisement,” “maintainance work,” “construction,” “municipal office” and “records.” It also attempts more specific expressions such as “demolish the building” and “safer environment.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, which sometimes makes the meaning less natural. Examples include “interested of knowing,” “have a knowledge,” “history of place,” and repeated use of “building or house.” Spelling errors such as “remeber,” “goverment” and “maintainance” also weaken control. Build a wider set of accurate phrases for property history, structural condition and archival research, and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay attempts both simple and more extended sentences, including conditional structures such as “If they want to sell their houses…” and a relative clause in “records of this thing.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but errors in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence construction occur often enough to affect fluency. For example, “Their could be many different reasons” should use “There,” “It also help them” needs subject–verb agreement, and “the place where they resides” has an incorrect verb form. The sentence beginning “Finding this provide a person” is difficult to follow because its structure is incomplete or unclear. Practise accurate sentence patterns and check each sentence for a clear subject, correctly formed verb and appropriate articles.
