Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses both questions and gives relevant reasons: curiosity about previous occupants and events, and concern about the building’s safety and condition. It also offers several practical research methods, including official records, online archives and conversations with older neighbours. These points are appropriate and the overall answer is clear. However, some ideas are only briefly explained. For example, the safety reason is introduced, but the link between learning about materials or past problems and making a property safer could be developed with a specific example. The research methods would also benefit from more detail about what records or websites might reveal. The response covers the task well overall, but fuller explanation and support would make the ideas more convincing and complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on reasons, a paragraph on research methods and a conclusion. The sequence within each body paragraph is generally logical, and signposts such as “One main reason,” “Another reason,” and “First” help readers follow the points. Some linking is mechanical, however, and the long list of research methods could be connected more smoothly. There are also places where relationships between ideas are not fully clear, such as “This information create strong connection woth buildings and local communities,” where the connection could be explained more explicitly. The conclusion repeats the main points but could synthesise them more naturally. More varied transitions and clearer referencing would strengthen the progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “previous owner,” “local authorities,” “renovate,” “photographs,” and “local history.” This gives the reader enough information to understand the main ideas. However, the range and control are limited, with repeated general terms such as “information,” “building,” and “people,” and several inaccurate word choices or collocations. For instance, “researching about” is not the natural form, while “serious hazardness” and “made change in buldings” are difficult to interpret precisely. Spelling errors such as “mdocuments,” “repot,” and “resudents” also reduce clarity. Aim to use more precise topic vocabulary and check spelling and common word partnerships carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay attempts both simple and more complex sentences, including a relative clause in “the house where they live” and a reason clause beginning “because they lived there for many years.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make sentences difficult to follow. Examples include missing or incorrect articles and agreement in “In some country” and “This information create,” as well as faulty verb forms in “This would reduced.” Sentence boundaries also need attention: “One main reason is simple curiosity, people just want to know…” joins two independent clauses with only a comma. Work on subject–verb agreement, verb forms, articles and punctuation, while practising accurate complex sentences.
