Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses both questions: it gives emotional and practical reasons for researching a home’s past, then suggests checking records, speaking to neighbours, and examining architectural features. The examples about property value and renovation are relevant, and the Pakistan example helps illustrate why a negative history might matter to buyers. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the link between famous history and higher value is not developed, and the renovation point could explain how historical information guides suitable repairs. The research methods are also unevenly explored: the register office is repeated, while the architectural method is not supported with a specific example. More precise development of these ideas would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for reasons and research methods, and a conclusion that returns to the main points. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “Finally,” and “Additionally” make the progression easy to follow. This gives the response a coherent arrangement, though some linking is mechanical and a few references are unclear. For example, “those” in the introduction has no precise antecedent, and “from there” in the final research example is vague. The conclusion also repeats the register-office and neighbour suggestions rather than synthesising the methods. Use more varied transitions and make references explicit to improve flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “historical background,” “previous owners,” “renovation,” “architecture designs,” and “reputation.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and there are attempts to use less common expressions. However, noticeable word-choice, collocation, and word-form errors sometimes make the writing awkward: “fascinating to come to know,” “enhance the rates of home,” and “scary persons” do not express the intended meanings naturally. Spelling errors such as “fimiliar” also reduce accuracy. Aim for established phrases and check word forms and spelling; for example, “interested in learning about,” “increase a property’s value,” and “cautious buyers” would be clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
There is an attempt to use both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses beginning with “because,” “if,” and “who,” as in “they want to know who were the earlier residents.” The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but some grammatical errors recur in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. Examples include “owners can came to know,” “if anyone want,” and “It is widely considered that, the majority,” where the verb forms or punctuation are inaccurate. In “they want to know who were the earlier residents,” the embedded question needs different word order. Review subject–verb agreement and verb patterns, and proofread sentence boundaries and commas. Greater control of these structures would make the ideas easier to read.
