Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses both questions: it suggests that family attachment and curiosity about earlier ways of life motivate people, and it names the internet, older residents, books and magazines as research sources. These are relevant ideas, but they are not developed evenly. The point about feeling safe in a family home is explained, while the claim that modern lifestyles create interest in the past is only briefly stated. The research methods are listed without showing how someone might use them—for example, checking local archives or property records online. The opening also promises to discuss the reasons and methods but does not establish a clear overall position. Explain each reason and method with a specific example to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on reasons and a paragraph on research methods. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly” and “Moreover” help signal the movement between points. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear, and the reasons paragraph contains several ideas in long, loosely connected sentences. For instance, the discussion moves from security to parents’ homes and then to architectural knowledge without clearly showing how each point relates to the main reason. References such as “this” and “it” are sometimes difficult to follow. Use shorter sentences to separate ideas, and make links explicit—for example, explain how family attachment leads to curiosity about a building’s past.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “history,” “ancient times,” “libraries” and “building styles,” and it attempts some less common expressions such as “modern lifestyle.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which can make meaning less clear. Examples include “attracting to find out,” “take knowledge,” “earn knowledge” and “take assist”; these do not express the intended ideas naturally. There are also repeated forms of “history,” “homes” and “people.” Build a more precise set of phrases for researching the past and describing motivation, and check collocations when learning new vocabulary. This will make the ideas clearer and less repetitive.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “because” and “so,” and the overall meaning is generally recoverable. However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence construction recur. For example, “people feels” should use a plural verb, while “it is seem” needs a different verb form. The opening phrase “House is basic necessity” also lacks appropriate articles, and the sentence beginning “To begin, with the reasons” is not grammatically well formed. Some punctuation around commas and spaces is inconsistent as well. Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then add subordinate clauses and check each clause for a clear subject and correct verb.
