Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify two relevant reasons—curiosity about the past and emotional attachment to a home—and you mention the internet as a way to research a building’s history. However, the task asks both why people are interested and how they can investigate, and the research part is only briefly addressed: listing online books, articles, blogs and vlogs does not explain how to use them or mention other useful sources, such as local archives, property records or previous residents. The reasons are also general and receive little specific support. The response contains 239 words, so it is 11 words below the required minimum; the eight words copied from the prompt are excluded. Develop each part with relevant examples and fuller explanation to address the task more completely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, paragraphs on reasons and research, and a conclusion. The sequence from curiosity and attachment to online research is generally understandable, and signposts such as “For example” and “Furthermore” help show relationships between ideas. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes repetitive: the first reason repeats the idea of wanting to learn about “everything” without advancing it with a specific explanation. Some linking is mechanical, and the conclusion introduces a broad claim that there are “no negative reasons” rather than clearly summarising the two answers. Improve cohesion by giving each paragraph a clear focus, using references such as “this curiosity” precisely, and ensuring the conclusion follows directly from the points discussed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonably varied set of topic-related expressions, including “emotionally attached,” “connected to their roots,” and “source of information.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the response attempts more formal vocabulary. However, several phrases are unnatural or imprecise, such as “technology globalization,” “behind this notion,” and “instant source of information.” There are also spelling and word-form errors, including “afforementioned” and “indiviadual,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for natural collocations and precise wording rather than adding formal-sounding phrases. For example, describe people as “interested in researching” a property and refer to “online sources” or “historical records.” Proofreading spelling and checking whether phrases sound idiomatic would make your vocabulary more effective.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional example (“if someone starts learning about history…”) and a participial opening (“Being familiar with…”). The overall meaning is usually clear, but errors in agreement, articles and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “almost every individual have access” should use a singular verb, and “there are numerous books… are uploaded online” combines two incompatible structures. In “can also makes it easy for them find,” the verb forms and infinitive pattern are incorrect. Punctuation and capitalisation also need attention, as in “For instance, It.” Practise checking subject–verb agreement and the structure of clauses after “there is/are” and modal verbs; accurate control of these patterns will make your varied sentences clearer.
