Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both questions by offering possible motivations and research methods. The reasons include curiosity prompted by fictional stories, hopes of finding minerals or treasure, and the desire to attract social-media followers; the methods include using devices, excavating, and consulting government records. However, several ideas are speculative or unclear, and the explanation of why people investigate their homes is not consistently convincing. For example, the link between films and children’s interest is asserted rather than supported, while the claim about locating objects 1,000 metres underground is not explained. The final paragraph merely repeats that people have different reasons and methods. Develop the most plausible reasons with clearer explanations or examples, and make the research methods more specific and realistic to address the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph on reasons, a paragraph on research methods, and a brief conclusion. This gives the reader an overall route through the answer. Within paragraphs, however, progression is sometimes weakened by abrupt shifts—for instance, the discussion moves from children influenced by films to middle-aged people seeking minerals, then to social-media followers. Linking phrases such as “Additionally” and “Moreover” help, but some connections feel mechanical, and references such as “this activity” in the conclusion are broad. The conclusion also repeats the introduction rather than drawing the main points together. Group related reasons more clearly, use transitions to show how each idea connects, and make references precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “fictional content,” “minerals,” “metal detectors,” and “government’s records.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the intended meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “indulged in searching,” “archeological fairytales,” “carnal desire,” and “commercial circus shop”; these do not express the likely ideas clearly. Spelling errors such as “traditonal,” “thier,” and “buidling” also reduce accuracy. Aim for straightforward, precise expressions rather than unusual vocabulary, and check spelling and collocations carefully. For example, “people are interested in researching” is more natural than “individuals are indulged in searching.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses beginning “while” and “in order to,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in articles, agreement, and sentence construction occur repeatedly: “number of individuals” needs an article, “One of the cause” should be plural, and “the people uses” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. Some sentences are also difficult to parse, such as “Either it used to be a graveyard or any commercial circus shop.” Punctuation and spacing around commas and full stops are frequently inaccurate, and capitalisation is inconsistent. These problems can make the reader pause to interpret your meaning. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, correct articles and agreement, and accurate punctuation.
