Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both questions: curiosity and interest in a building’s past are given as reasons, while relatives, neighbours, government records, libraries and the internet are suggested as research sources. The example of a house once belonging to an important person is relevant, but the reasons and methods are mostly listed rather than explained or illustrated in detail. Some points are also unclear, such as the reference to how often a building was repaired. The response is 238 words, so it is 12 words below the required minimum; 21 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop each main idea with a brief explanation or example, and ensure the response meets the minimum length.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate sections on reasons and research methods, and a conclusion. This helps the reader identify the two parts of the task. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven: the reasons paragraph moves from curiosity to historical importance and repairs without clearly connecting these points. Linking phrases such as “On the first hand” and “Moreover” are attempted, but some are inaccurate or do not make the relationship between ideas clear. The final paragraph repeats several methods already mentioned rather than bringing the discussion together. Group related ideas more carefully, use accurate transitions, and make references such as “this information” clearly point to a specific source.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “historical importance,” “official records,” “local government office” and “database.” These choices show that you can communicate the main subject and research methods. However, the range is limited and several spelling errors make the writing less clear, including “interset,” “histroical,” “interent” and “disover.” Some phrases are also imprecise or unnatural, such as “old family persom” and “historical movement.” Repetition of “house,” “building” and “information” further limits variety. Build a small set of accurate topic-specific expressions and check spelling and collocations; for example, distinguish between historical events and a building’s history.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Most sentences use simple structures, and the reader can generally understand the intended meaning. There are attempts to combine ideas, for example, “an old house was owned by important person” followed by a possible historical connection. However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships difficult to follow. Examples include “There is several reason,” “when their house made,” and “people want to know their house has any historical importance.” Verb forms, subject–verb agreement, articles and sentence construction need more consistent control. The long sentence beginning “For instance” also joins several ideas without clear grammatical boundaries. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine them using clauses such as “because,” “whether” and “which.”
