Student answer (Band 5.5)

Around the world, the intrest in knowing more about their surroundings specifically their homes has exponentially increased. The most important cause for this new obsession is the increasing number of natural disasters in the world which leads to people being more cautious about their home's history. Research suggests, another striking reason for this new born interest is competetiveness of the real estate industry, which is encouraging the residents to research more and find the best place to live in.

Now a days, peoples concern abour their safety has exponentially increased which leads them to research about their buildings in order to know the actual age of its architecture and the building's ability to withstand a natural disaster like an earthquake. Another reason for this increased interest is developed from the substantially growing real estate choices. People generally tend to chose the best for themselves and the only way is to do some research about their homes or their buildings.

Several ways are used by individuals for their research. The most effective and easy is to ask their landlords or home owners directly. If thats not possible, people are going around asking about their homes in their neighbourhood. Another effective way for this research is to pre date their google maps on their pin location and then see what was there before their house was built and if none of these works, people are also posting on social media about their homes in order to know more.

In conculsion, the increased interest has led in people being more cautious for natural disasters and choosing the best real estate for themselves. This habit is a good one and everyone should know about the history of their homes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both questions: you suggest safety concerns and competition in the housing market as reasons, then offer several research methods, including asking owners, speaking to neighbours, checking Google Maps and using social media. These points are relevant, but the explanations remain general and are not supported with a specific example, so the response only partly develops its ideas. The link between real-estate competition and researching a building’s history is also unclear: explain what information people seek and how it helps them choose a home. The conclusion repeats the main points rather than adding insight. To strengthen the response, explain each reason more fully and show how the proposed research methods can reveal a building’s past.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, paragraphs on reasons and research methods, and a conclusion. This helps the reader follow the main topics. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes repetitive: the second paragraph restates the safety and real-estate reasons already introduced, rather than extending them with distinct supporting details. Linking phrases such as “Another reason” and “In conclusion” are clear but somewhat mechanical, and the sequence of research methods would benefit from more explicit connections. Some references are also unclear, such as “if none of these works,” which does not precisely identify which methods have failed. Develop a clearer progression by assigning each paragraph a distinct purpose and linking examples directly to the point they support.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “natural disasters,” “real estate industry,” “withstand,” and “neighbourhood,” and the meaning is generally understandable. However, the range is limited by repeated wording such as “increased interest,” “research,” and “effective,” while several choices are inaccurate or unnatural. For example, “new obsession” is stronger than the neutral tone requires, and “pre date their google maps on their pin location” does not clearly express the intended method. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “intrest,” “competetiveness,” and “conculsion.” Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your ideas easier to understand and give your vocabulary greater flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a relative clause in “the increasing number of natural disasters … which leads” and conditional phrasing in “If thats not possible.” These attempts show some range, but control is uneven and errors sometimes make the reader pause. For example, “which leads” does not agree with the plural subject “disasters,” and “peoples concern” needs a possessive form. The sentence beginning “Research suggests” is also awkwardly punctuated, while “directly. If” needs a space after the full stop. Some sentences combine several ideas without clear grammatical boundaries. Review subject–verb agreement, possessives, sentence punctuation and the construction of longer clauses, then proofread for consistent accuracy.
