Student answer (Band 5.0)
As the essay illustrates that in some countries more and more people are becoming interested in finding out about the history of the house or building they live in, which clearly shows the importance of people interest in history.
In my opinion, people want to know the history of the houses and building they live in because they want to know that who live in their house before and what type of people they were. They want to know whether this house hold some horrific memories or is there any signs of ghosts which will affect their life in future. For example if a there are signs of ghost this will definitely effect their life in, their children because this is something we can’t ignore.
People do research by talking to the people who lived that house before them , by finding the old tenant of that house and by knowing whether there is any issue in that house or not.
On the other hand , some people are interested in history of buildings because they found many historical things there of ancient times , which will help them to know that which type of people live in those buildings by looking at their walls which shows that how the architecture designs the old buildings. In old buildings some walls shows the paintings which shows how talented the artist was in ancient times. For example in India and Pakistan there are still old buildings available which shows the both countries there artwork, that how the two different nations design their buildings houses when both countries gained independence.
In conclusion i would say that having interest in history is a good thing you get to know more about ancient times which also help you in present. Many architects now a days are copying designs of old buildings which attract people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses both questions: it gives possible reasons for interest, such as learning about former occupants, possible unsettling events, and the historical value of a building, and suggests speaking to previous residents or tenants. These points are relevant, but the explanation of research is brief and limited to personal enquiries; other practical sources or methods are not explored. Some ideas also need clearer development. For instance, the discussion of ghosts is presented as a reason without explaining how common or important this concern is, while the India and Pakistan example is difficult to connect precisely to the history of an individual home. A clearer focus on the task and more specific support for each main point would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay has a recognisable structure, with an opening, body paragraphs and a conclusion, and it moves from personal reasons to the historical interest of older buildings. However, progression within and between ideas is not always clear. The second paragraph combines former occupants, frightening memories and effects on children, while the next paragraph gives research methods in only one short sentence. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand” do not clearly signal a contrast with the preceding point, and repeated “which shows” constructions make the later example feel repetitive. Organise each paragraph around one main idea, use clearer links between reasons and methods, and make references such as “that house” unambiguous.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant vocabulary, including “horrific memories,” “ancient times,” “architecture” and “historical,” so the reader can follow the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, which sometimes makes meaning less precise. For example, “old tenant” is not a natural way to refer to a former resident, and “their artwork” is unclear when describing the buildings of two countries. “Signs of ghosts” and repeated uses of “shows” also sound imprecise in this context. Aim for more exact terms for research sources and architectural features, and vary repeated verbs. Check spelling and word forms as well, including “effect” where the intended meaning is “affect.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay attempts both simple and more extended sentences, but control is inconsistent, and errors occur often enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. The opening, “As the essay illustrates that…,” is an incomplete and awkwardly formed clause. Other examples include “people interest” instead of a possessive form, “who live in their house before” instead of a past-tense question, and “some walls shows,” where the subject and verb do not agree. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable, particularly in the long example beginning “For example if…”. Practise forming complete clauses, checking tense and subject–verb agreement, and separating long sentences into clearer units. More accurate control of these basics would make the ideas easier to understand.
