Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both questions: you suggest that residents want to understand family origins and learn about a building’s condition, and you identify elders and government records as research sources. These are relevant ideas, but they are not developed evenly. The family-history explanation is difficult to follow, particularly “the origin of my birth” and the unclear question about whether a family’s birth “belongs to that house.” The point about using building history to guide repairs is more specific, but would benefit from an example. Your research methods are named, though you could explain how records might be accessed or what information they contain. The response therefore covers the task, but some ideas remain unclear or under-supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph on reasons, one on research methods, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “To begin with” and “Furthermore” helps readers follow the main sections. However, progression within the reasons paragraph is sometimes difficult to track: the sentences about family origins and where a family was born do not connect clearly. Some linking is mechanical, and “For instance” introduces examples that are not always fully explained. The conclusion repeats the main points but does not bring them together clearly. To improve, make each paragraph’s central point explicit, connect each example directly to that point, and use pronouns with clear references.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “restore,” “repair,” “renovate,” “government official documentation,” and “history.” This gives you enough language to communicate the broad ideas. However, the range is limited and several word combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “searching out about,” “find out the history about,” and “the origin of their birth.” Repetition of “find out,” “history,” and “information” also limits flexibility. Some choices make the intended meaning harder to understand, especially in the family-history explanation. Build a bank of natural collocations for researching property records and describing family connections, and check whether each phrase expresses the relationship you intend.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a relative clause in “which may be helpful for them to restore, repair or renovate them.” However, complex structures are often not controlled successfully, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to interpret. For example, “This essay will discuss the reason and the way how people can search this” has problems with number and clause construction, while “they can use government official documentation and papers which contain…” needs clearer sentence structure. There are also errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and punctuation, such as “which can shows” and the lowercase “they” after a full stop. Practise accurate sentence patterns before adding more complexity.
