Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses both questions: it gives reasons for interest in a building’s past, including curiosity and concern about safety, and suggests using online maps or asking previous residents. The personal example about checking land records helps make the safety point relevant. However, some ideas are not fully explained or are unclear. The example about finding a king’s remains is difficult to connect to researching the history of one’s own home, and the discussion of Google Maps does not explain how maps reveal a building’s history. Develop each reason with a direct explanation and use more precise examples, such as consulting local archives, property records, or historical societies. The conclusion summarises the topic but adds little to the response’s main points.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for reasons and research methods, and a conclusion. This makes the response easy to follow, and signposts such as “One of the main reason” and “Another way” help identify the stages of the discussion. The organisation is generally logical, but some links between ideas are not fully clear. For instance, the example about a king’s remains does not clearly support the point about curiosity regarding a particular home, while the transition from online maps to researching a building’s history needs explanation. Some linking phrases, including “Hence” and “Besides,” feel mechanical or do not express the relationship precisely. Use clearer references and connect each example explicitly to the point it illustrates.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some topic-related vocabulary, including “history records,” “previous residents,” “safety,” and “accommodation documents,” and it attempts more formal expressions such as “relevant” and “advanced technology.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the intended meaning difficult to understand. Examples include “fulfill their curiosity,” “previous historical events related to their accommodation area,” and “justify such demands.” There are also spelling and word-form errors, such as “existance,” “properity,” and “investiment.” Aim for precise, natural phrases and check spelling carefully. A wider range of accurate terms for research methods—such as property deeds, municipal archives, and historical records—would make the discussion clearer and more specific.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay attempts both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “the house or flat that they purchased” and a conditional-style example beginning “when we first bought the land.” However, control is uneven, and errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement, articles, and punctuation recur. For example, “where they may spent” needs a correctly formed verb, and “One of the main reason” has a singular-plural agreement problem. The sentence beginning “Another reason is why people conduct such trend” is structurally awkward, while “the land, which we made a house on it” contains an unclear clause construction. Review verb patterns and sentence boundaries, and simplify sentences when needed. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve clarity.
