Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response attempts both questions and has an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, but it does not clearly explain why people investigate the history of their current home or how they can research it. Most of the body discusses choosing a place to live, such as wanting a good view, affordable transport or proximity to work; these points address housing preferences rather than the building’s past. The conclusion similarly refers to a “history house” and saving money or time without clarifying the reasons. To strengthen the response, give relevant reasons—such as curiosity about previous owners, heritage, or renovation plans—and practical research methods, such as checking property records, local archives, old maps or asking long-term residents. The ideas need clearer explanation and examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a recognisable overall structure, with an opening, two body paragraphs and a concluding sentence, and phrases such as “On the one hand” and “In couclusion” signal paragraph roles. However, the progression within paragraphs is difficult to follow: the first body paragraph moves from public influence to apartments, views and living alone, while the second shifts among work, transport, dreams and city life. Several linking words, including “while” and “apart from this,” do not make the relationships between ideas clear. Some sentences also run together, making it hard to identify where one point ends and another begins. Organise each paragraph around one task question, use clear topic sentences, and connect each supporting detail directly to that central point.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The response uses a basic range of topic-related vocabulary, including “house or building,” “apartment,” “view,” “work place” and “transport system.” Some attempts to express ideas such as affordability and environment are evident, but frequent spelling errors and inaccurate word choices make meaning difficult to recover—for example, “chep,” “afortable,” “enovierment,” and “good ears.” Several phrases are also imprecise or unnatural, such as “live they life pace full in they derams places.” Build accuracy with common collocations before trying more elaborate expressions: for this task, practise terms such as “property history,” “previous owners,” “local records” and “historical archives.” Proofread spelling and choose words that express the intended idea precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

There are attempts at longer sentences and subordinate clauses, including “becase they want…” and “so they save they money or time,” as well as a basic essay structure. However, sentence patterns are often incomplete or difficult to interpret, and control of verb forms, agreement, articles and pronouns is weak. For example, “many nations more and more people are becoming interested” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “they wants to good ears” has problems with agreement and the verb pattern. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several ideas joined into long strings. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them using one clear subordinate clause. Check subject–verb agreement, pronoun forms and sentence boundaries during revision.
