Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify a relevant reason for researching a building’s history: people may want to check the materials used and assess safety. You also mention curiosity about the background of things people use. However, the response addresses the task only minimally: it does not explain how people can research the history, and the reasons are left incomplete. The final sentence stops at “they want to know,” so the second reason is not developed or supported with an example. The response is also 118 words below the required minimum, which leaves too little space to answer both questions adequately. To improve, explain several research methods, such as checking property records, consulting local archives, or speaking with previous owners, and support each main point with a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introduction is followed by a paragraph beginning “On the one hand,” and the ideas are signposted with “First of all” and “Secondly.” These markers show an intention to sequence points. However, the overall progression is incomplete: the essay ends mid-idea, has no paragraph addressing research methods, and does not provide a conclusion. Some linking is mechanical, and the opening “On the one hand” suggests a contrast that is never completed. Build a clear structure with separate paragraphs for reasons and research methods, connect each point to the next, and finish with a brief concluding sentence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “construction,” “material,” “safety reasons,” and “background,” which helps communicate the general topic. However, the range is limited, and several spelling or word-choice errors make the writing less clear, such as “intrested,” “cruosity,” and “appartment.” Some phrases are also unnatural, including “strength is the main motive” and “history of house.” Aim for more precise collocations and accurate spelling, for example, describe people as wanting to “assess the building’s structural safety” or “learn about its previous occupants.” Expanding vocabulary for research methods would also help you answer the full task more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a reason-and-result structure with “therefore,” and the main meaning is generally understandable. However, the range remains limited, and errors occur in sentence construction, articles, agreement, and verb forms. For example, “how can people research the history” is not correctly formed as an indirect question in this sentence; “the the history” repeats an article; and “material had used” lacks the correct passive form. The sentence beginning “Secondly” is unfinished, which also prevents the grammar from being fully controlled. Practise complete sentences, accurate past and present forms, and article use; then check each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
