Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses both questions: it gives reasons for researching a property’s past and suggests asking older residents, consulting libraries, and speaking with long-term neighbours. The examples about ownership documents and avoiding disputes are relevant, but they shift the focus towards proving current ownership rather than explaining why people are curious about a building’s history. The reasons are also not fully developed: the link to previous generations’ wealth and lifestyle is mentioned, but cultural interest, family connections, or practical concerns such as renovation are not clearly explained. The answer therefore covers the task only partially, with some relevant ideas that need clearer explanation and support.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for reasons and research methods, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Initially,” “First of all,” and “Secondly” help readers follow the main sections. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and connections between ideas are not always clear. For example, the discussion moves from land documents and tax to the “ancient tale” of a property without explaining how these points relate. References such as “It” and “they” can also be unclear. To improve, group related points more tightly and use linking phrases that show the relationship between a reason, its explanation, and its example.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response attempts topic-related vocabulary, including “previous ownerships,” “land records,” and “local stories,” and the reader can generally identify the intended meaning. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably inaccurate, sometimes making the message difficult to interpret. Phrases such as “attracted for searching out,” “past evidences,” and “getting news about past land records” are not natural in this context. There are also spelling and word-form problems, including “aknowledge” and “disjusticed.” Build a more precise set of phrases for discussing historical research, property records, and personal or cultural interest, and check that each word fits its grammatical and contextual role.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay includes both simple statements and attempts at longer sentences, for example, “If a man has all the documents … he can avoid some social issues.” However, the range is limited, and complex constructions are often inaccurate. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in “citizens of certain country are becoming” and “collecting past evidence assist individuals”; articles and plurals are also inconsistent. The sentence beginning “to attempt getting previous evidences are crucial” has a faulty structure, while punctuation and capitalisation are uneven, as in “For example, If” and “time. residence.” These errors sometimes make the intended relationships harder to follow. Practise accurate sentence patterns and review agreement, articles, and clause construction.
