Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response makes a limited attempt to address the reasons for researching a home’s history, suggesting that residents may worry that “murder” happened there and may want to share what they learn with family. However, these ideas are not explained or supported, and the second part of the task—how people can research the history—is not answered at all. The response therefore covers the task only minimally, rather than developing relevant points across both questions. It is also substantially below the required 250 words, which leaves too little space to explain the reasons, describe research methods such as checking public records or speaking to previous residents, and give a relevant example. Address both questions directly and develop each point with explanation and evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to connect ideas: the opening introduces the topic, and “because” signals a reason. The reference to sharing information with family also follows the general subject of discovering a building’s past. However, the response has no clear paragraph structure or developed progression, and the final sentence beginning “It begain” is difficult to connect to the preceding point. The ideas are presented as a short sequence rather than organised into an introduction, reason paragraphs, and a section on research methods. Some referencing is also unclear, as in “the history they live in.” Use separate paragraphs for the two task questions, and make links between ideas explicit with clear topic sentences and accurate pronouns.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses a small set of relevant topic words, including “history,” “house,” “apartment,” and “family member,” so the general subject can be understood. It also attempts to express a specific concern through the example of a murder. However, the vocabulary range is limited and several spelling or word-choice errors make the writing less clear, including “intrest,” “interferring,” “unnesscery,” and “happed.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “finding out the history about the house” and “intrested to finding out.” Build a more accurate range for this topic, including terms such as “previous occupants,” “property records,” and “local archives,” and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both a simple statement and a longer sentence with a reason, as in “people are … finding out … because they think…”. This shows an effort to connect clauses, but control is inconsistent, and the sentence structures remain limited. Errors in agreement and sentence formation appear in “most of person are taking” and “people are intrested to finding out.” The opening also runs directly into the next sentence without appropriate spacing or punctuation, while “the history they live in” does not form a clear grammatical relationship. Practise accurate basic sentence patterns first, especially plural subjects, verb forms after “interested in,” and complete sentence boundaries; then add a wider range of controlled complex sentences.
