Student answer (Band 5.0)
Nowadays, an increasing number of people are interested in discovering the history of their homes and the buildings in which they live. There are several reasons for doing that, including curiosity about the past and concerns about the value and safety of properties. There are various ways in which people can investigate the history of their homes.
Firstly, people can find out about the history of the house from local people for instance, they can know about the history from people who live near that house. Secondly, they can know about the history from people who have lived in that building or house before most of the people usually do that just to know about the history of the house and to build an emotional connection with their house.
In addition, I believe that knowing about the history of the house you want to live in is very important because this is how you can build a strong connection with that house. If the building is old, you can also learn about that from people living in that city.
However, this is also very important to know about the history or to do proper research of the house you want to live in due to the saftey concern of the property. You must know whether that property is legal or not or the owner who owned that property before you have all the legal documents of that place.
In conclusion, all the reasons i have given above are very important just to be sure about the legalization of the property you want to live in.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both questions: you suggest curiosity and emotional attachment as reasons, and mention neighbours, former residents, and checking legal documents as research methods. These are relevant points, but the response only partially develops the task. The reasons are introduced in the opening, yet curiosity is not explained further, and the discussion focuses mainly on safety and legality rather than giving a balanced account of why people investigate a building’s past. Research methods are also limited to asking people; you could add sources such as property records, archives, old maps, or local libraries. The conclusion repeats the legal concern instead of bringing together the main reasons and methods. Develop each idea with a clear explanation or example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an opening, several body paragraphs, and a conclusion, so the reader can identify its broad structure. However, progression is limited: the second paragraph repeats the idea of asking people about the house, and the following paragraph returns to emotional connection without clearly advancing the discussion. Connectors such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “In addition,” and “However” signal relationships, but some are mechanical or do not mark a clear contrast. For example, “However” introduces another reason for researching rather than an opposing point. Some sentences also run together, making the organisation harder to follow. Group the reasons in one paragraph and research methods in another, and use clearer links between each point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “history,” “emotional connection,” “safety concern,” and “legal documents.” However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, particularly “history of the house” and “people living in that city.” Some word choices are imprecise or unnatural, such as “legalization of the property” when you mean confirming its legal status, and “know about the history” where “find out about” or “research” would be more natural. There are also spelling and form errors, including “saftey.” Aim to vary repeated expressions and use more precise terms for research sources and property checks, while checking spelling and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “the buildings in which they live” and a conditional structure in “If the building is old, you can also learn about that.” Meaning is generally understandable, but control is uneven, and some sentences become difficult to follow because clauses are joined without clear punctuation. For example, the sentence beginning “Secondly, they can know…” continues into several ideas without a full stop, while “the owner who owned that property before you have…” has a subject–verb agreement problem. There are also missing spaces after full stops and inconsistent capitalisation of “I.” Use shorter, complete sentences when presenting several points, and check agreement, punctuation, and sentence boundaries.
