Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses both questions: it gives reasons such as curiosity about previous residents, the building’s age and safety, and suggests online research, asking neighbours, and contacting a registrar. However, these points are mostly listed rather than explained or supported with a relevant example, and the opening repeats the idea of wanting to know more without clarifying the reasons. The claim that ancestors “don’t want to leave” is unclear and does not develop the answer. The response is also 229 words, below the required 250-word minimum; 20 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. To strengthen the response, explain why these concerns matter and describe how a specific source, such as property records or local archives, could help.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a paragraph about reasons and a final paragraph about research methods. The shift to research methods is signalled by “On the other hand,” and the ideas are generally grouped by topic. However, progression within paragraphs is weak: the reasons paragraph repeats that people want to know about their homes, and “All these reasons behind this” does not clearly connect the points. Linking phrases such as “because” and “also” are used repetitively, while references such as “this” and “they” can be unclear. Use a clearer sequence—for example, explain curiosity and safety separately, then group research methods—and make each linking phrase show the precise relationship between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary is basic but relevant to the topic, including “historical importance,” “curious,” “neighbour,” and “registrar.” These choices allow the reader to identify the main ideas, but repetition of “house,” “history,” and “want to know” limits range and precision. Several inaccurate or misspelled forms also make the writing less clear, including “intrested,” “amaizing,” “anccestors,” and “homers.” Some phrases are not natural in this context, such as “online facility” and “looks very potential.” Build a more precise set of topic-related expressions and check spelling; for instance, refer to property records, previous occupants, or a building’s age rather than repeating general references to its history.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Most sentences use simple patterns, and the reader can usually follow the intended meaning, but grammatical control is inconsistent. Errors include “They want to know, what the history behind their house” (an incomplete indirect question), “whether their house safe to live in” (missing verb), and “how old their house” (also missing a verb). There are also problems with verb forms and sentence construction in “people want to know or finding out” and “Other method to finding out.” The response attempts longer sentences, but these are often faulty, so they do not yet provide a reliable range. Practise complete clauses, especially indirect questions (“what the history is”) and consistent verb patterns (“want to find out”).
