Student answer (Band 5.5)

In certain countries, the number of individuals showing interest in understanding the historical background of the places they currently reside in is increasing gradually.

There are several reasons why this is happening. One reason could be to educate themselves of the historical events that took place in that residence. Another reason could be that, people are interest in finding out their family roots and stick to their values, preserve the memories and get emotionally connected to the society.

The individuals can get a huge amount of information by means of internet. Articles, books and historical news can help them revive different sort of information about their house or building. Another way is to interview the local people living in the neighborhood or ask their own elders who have spent their life in that house.

In conclusion, the curiosity of discovering the history of their homes might be because they want to perceive their values and understand their past. That, they can achieve by different means of information using internet and local ways

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both questions: you suggest motives such as learning about past events and family roots, and research methods including online sources, local residents, and older relatives. However, the response is under the required 250 words, and this contributes to ideas remaining limited and under-developed. For example, “educate themselves of the historical events” is not explained with a specific example, while the reasons about family roots, values, memories, and social connection are listed together without showing how they relate. The research methods also need more detail, such as consulting property records or local archives. Your conclusion restates the main points, but the overall response only partially develops the task.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph on reasons, one on research methods, and a conclusion. This makes the main stages easy to identify. However, progression within paragraphs is limited because ideas are mostly listed rather than explained or linked. The transition “Another reason could be that” introduces several points at once, and the final sentence, “That, they can achieve by different means,” has an unclear reference and does not connect smoothly to the preceding sentence. Cohesive phrases such as “One reason” and “Another way” are useful, but the response relies on a small set of basic links. Develop each main point in sequence and use clearer references to improve flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “historical background,” “family roots,” “preserve the memories,” and “interview the local people.” These choices show an attempt to discuss the subject beyond very basic terms. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “educate themselves of,” “revive different sort of information,” and “perceive their values.” These expressions can make the intended meaning less precise. Aim for natural combinations such as “learn about the history,” “find historical records,” and “maintain a connection with their heritage.” More precise vocabulary for research sources would also help you explain your ideas more fully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use mostly straightforward sentence forms, with some attempts to combine ideas using clauses such as “who have spent their life in that house.” Meaning is generally understandable, but grammatical control is uneven. For example, “people are interest” has an incorrect verb form, and “Another reason could be that, people…” has faulty punctuation and sentence construction. In “different sort of information,” the singular form does not agree with the plural meaning, while “That, they can achieve…” is an incomplete and awkwardly punctuated construction. The response would benefit from a wider range of accurately controlled complex sentences. Check subject–verb forms, articles and plurals, and read each sentence aloud to identify breaks that do not form complete sentences.
