Student answer (Band 5.5)
In some countries around the world increasing number of people are becoming intrested in finding out about the history of the house or building they live in. There are several reasons for this such as they may want to know the poperty value of the house, about previous owner or renter of the house, willing to know the historical value of the building. There are several methods by which they can research about the building or house, such as through old documents, government offices, neighbours etc.
On the one hand, there are several reason for that the people are intrested in the history of the house. Individuals may intrested to know about the land value of the building because they may have intrest to buy the house or building. Furthermore, people are intrested because they want to know that who had lived here before them. When some one live in a rented house they may have curiosity about the rent of the building.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both questions: you give possible reasons for researching a home’s past and suggest sources such as a land registry office, neighbours and old documents. The response stays relevant, and the conclusion restates the main points. However, the reasons are only partly explained. For example, you mention property value and previous occupants, but do not clarify what people hope to learn from these details or why that knowledge matters. The point about curiosity about rent is also unclear as a reason for investigating a building’s history. Add specific explanations or examples, and develop each main reason and research method more fully so the task is answered in greater depth.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for reasons and research methods, and a conclusion. Phrases such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In addition” help signal the stages of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is limited: several points are listed without showing how they connect or expanding on them. The repeated opening “there are several” and repeated references to “the house or building” make the organisation feel mechanical. Some referencing is also unclear, particularly “people they lived before you” in the conclusion. Link each point to its explanation and use clearer references to maintain a smoother flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “land registry office,” “previous owner,” “historical value,” and “old documents.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors are noticeable. Examples include “intrested,” “poperty,” and “research about the building”; more natural phrasing would be “interested,” “property,” and “research the building’s history.” The repeated use of “building,” “house,” and “information” also makes the writing less precise. Build a wider set of accurate expressions for ownership, property records and historical research, and check spelling and common word combinations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentences and use basic linking structures, but sentence patterns are mostly simple, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. For example, “Individuals may intrested” is missing the verb “be,” while “there are several reason” has a plural agreement error. In “they want to know that who had lived here before them,” the clause structure is incorrect; use “who had lived there before them.” There are also problems with articles, agreement and sentence construction, as in “having sufficient information … are beneficial.” Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, verb forms and embedded questions, then combine ideas using a wider range of controlled sentence structures.
